Chain Lubrication via Cam Case Breather?

    I'm installing a NOS chain (Duckworth) on my '29 Scout.  I'll be using modern aerosol chain lube.  Is there any reason I need to keep the output tube from the cam case breather directed at the chain?  It makes a bit of a mess...

    Are you pointing the tube downwards so excess oil just runs onto the ground?

    Has anybody tried Kiwi Indian's PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve in place of the cam case breather disk?
